So he prayed & worshipped the devil and now he can melt people? But why? How does melting people's faces do anything for the devil? Is it to show The devil that he'll kill for him?Like I said it just felt more like the art came first and the author rushed to throw a story into it。 Final Thoughts: Just okay。 I liked the gory scenes because he does gory scenes to perfection, but the story just wasn't there for me。 Recommend For:t• Graphic novelst• Gory scenest• Horror stories IG| Blog 。。。more

Well, I believe this is a manga of Junji Ito that can really prove that he can write a story。I really don't care about character development and a deep meaning behind the plot though。This one was pure horror。 And of course, I loved it!One of his best, for sure! After Gyo, Shivers, Fragments of Horror, Remina and Sensor, this is the 6th Junji Ito's work I read。The plot is probably the most straightforward I've read yet。 There are still lots of questions to answer as it happens in any of his works but there is less space to wonder in here。The plot is bizarre enough as one would expect and the art is as amazing as it in all of his works。I'll still give it a 5 star just because I really enjoyed it for what it is, even though the story itself is much simple After Gyo, Shivers, Fragments of Horror, Remina and Sensor, this is the 6th Junji Ito's work I read。The plot is probably the most straightforward I've read yet。 There are still lots of questions to answer as it happens in any of his works but there is less space to wonder in here。The plot is bizarre enough as one would expect and the art is as amazing as it in all of his works。I'll still give it a 5 star just because I really enjoyed it for what it is, even though the story itself is much simpler than other of his works。 。。。more

3。5/5this was my first junji ito and i can definitely say i get the hype。 his art style is absolutely captivating, and even in moments when the plot might have felt a little lackluster, i was constantly drawn in by the art。i really enjoyed the short story format with an overarching narrative, i think it made this a lot stronger of a story overall。 interview with the devil left me with such mixed feelings - although i felt the most surprised by certain plot twists, i was really rooting for the su 3。5/5this was my first junji ito and i can definitely say i get the hype。 his art style is absolutely captivating, and even in moments when the plot might have felt a little lackluster, i was constantly drawn in by the art。i really enjoyed the short story format with an overarching narrative, i think it made this a lot stronger of a story overall。 interview with the devil left me with such mixed feelings - although i felt the most surprised by certain plot twists, i was really rooting for the surviving characters, and their fates left me a little dissatisfied。 chizumi in love was easily my favorite of the stories, she’s so weird and creepy and it made me kind of love her character lol。 overall, this left me really excited to continue exploring ito’s other works 。。。more

carrie,
My first foray into the mind of Junji Ito。 While it eventually became repetitive the visuals did not lose their ick factor。 I look forward to diving into the other works of Junji Ito that I have collected so far。

lord of the rings has gollum, shenmue has chai, yakuza 5 has Kugihara Hirosh, and this has Chizumi。

Weird and disturbing, yet enjoyable。 While the stories felt a bit repetitive, I truly enjoyed the progression of their journey as siblings and the uncertainty of picking which sibling was manipulating the other。
Jack,
I thought this was going to be an Ito riff on “Drifting Classroom”, but it wasn’t。 The title lied! This is basically “Tomie, except gross”, which is fine, just not what I initially expected。 Also I can’t help but feel it was meant to be a longer narrative than just a handful of stories。 Not that there’s much to this beyond the ick-factor, but the ending feels rushed。 Ito’s art is off-putting as always, at least。

The other Junji Ito books I've read have been either very long, or the super short stories, so this length was new to me with his writing。 It reminded me of Tomei in how it follows the siblings moving around over time, I like that format where there are gaps in the timeline and they add to the mystery a little bit。 There's a whole other feeling than in Tomei though, and the way the devil pulls in by the end was great。 The illustrations of his face actually kind of creeped m This was really good! This is a bizzare book。 Which should come to no surprise for any reader who has delved into Junji Ito's publications before。 Told in a string of connecting short stories, it follows an odd sibling duo as they wreck havoc across Japan, leaving a trail of (literal) melted brains behind them。 And while the truly odd and striking nature of any of Ito's work is something hard to look away from, as in any of his graphic ventures, this one in particular was summed up in a fantastic way。 Because once yo This is a bizzare book。 Which should come to no surprise for any reader who has delved into Junji Ito's publications before。 Told in a string of connecting short stories, it follows an odd sibling duo as they wreck havoc across Japan, leaving a trail of (literal) melted brains behind them。 And while the truly odd and striking nature of any of Ito's work is something hard to look away from, as in any of his graphic ventures, this one in particular was summed up in a fantastic way。 Because once you get to end you realise that the whole scenario is actually commenting on a very real and modern phenomenon - the public apology。 Whether you take the story through this lens, or just in the skin-crawling, gory glory that is classic in these graphic novels, it is a book that will stick in the back of your mind for a long time。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 definitely my least favorite so far of all of Ito’s work that i’ve read。 not bad because its short, but it felt like every chapter was a repeat of the previous one。 Yuuma does something horrible, his sister explains to the victims or witnesses why its happening (which is always because of him relationship withe the devil so its pretty much the same explanation over and over again), and then some more horror ensues。 i LOVE Junji ito’s work, but this one was kind of a flop in my opinion…
Nate,
This is my introduction into Junji Ito's work, which I have been wanting to get on for a long time。 This is some grim storytelling with some graphic depictions。 It's made up of several short stories, bundled together with an over-arcing plot。 The characters are sinister and the narrative is great。 Really enjoyed this。 This is my introduction into Junji Ito's work, which I have been wanting to get on for a long time。 This is some grim storytelling with some graphic depictions。 It's made up of several short stories, bundled together with an over-arcing plot。 The characters are sinister and the narrative is great。 Really enjoyed this。 。。。more
